FUE (follicular unit extraction) What is FUE?
There are lots of misconceptions about hair transplant. FUE or also known as follicular unit extraction is one of them. Most of the time, people thing that this method is the hair transplantation. Actually, this is only the hair extraction technique.
Combined with suitable hair implant technique, FUE and other technique forms the overall hair transplant operation. When combined with hair implant technique, the name of the operation can be FUE Sapphire technique, FUE Slit technique or FUE DHI technique. In short, FUE is the main method to collect hair grafts for the transplant operation.
How Is FUE Applied?
There are few steps in this hair extraction technique. Before starting hair extraction, doctor will determine the number of grafts needed for the hair transplant. Number of required grafts depend on level of hair loss. Also, hair transplant region plays an important role to determine the number as well.
After this process, local anaesthesia is applied to donor area. This way pain is eliminated. Grafts are extracted with special hand-held tools. These tools are specially designed for hair extraction process. During the procedure, there will be no pain. Extraction can take up to 2 hours depending on number of grafts needed for transplant.
Advantages of FUE Hair Extraction
One of the main advantage of this hair extraction technique is it does not need any stitching. For this reason, healing process is short. Also, there is almost no scarring after the operation. Another advantage is shorter operation times. Hair transplant can be completed in 6 to 8 hours. This is short compared to old FUT technique.
During hair extraction, there is no mark left on the extracted area. Although hair is generally extracted from back of the head, this no scar enables extraction from other areas as well. In different cases, hair can be extracted from chest as well as from face.
